Isaiah 58:5 ‘Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,…’
There are many examples of people in Holy Scripture fasting and praying. Why fast? Why give up food/things? Do I replace that food or things foregone? When you fast, it is an act of humbling yourself before God, it should not be an announcement from the highest building, but rather done in quiet commitment. It is taking your dependence off food/TV/other and placing it on God….your true provider. Isaiah 58:6 ‘…to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free…to share your food with the hungry…..not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?’ Fasting is one of the most spiritual experiences that Christians can undertake. There may be many yokes (bonds) over your life. You can be set free, our LORD can convict your heart like never before during a fast. Bless you.
Prayer. Holy LORD, show us the path of true humility before you, show us your calling over our lives.
