Growing as a disciple

John 8:31 ‘Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, ”If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples..”

Do you really want to be a disciple of Jesus? Or is your thinking “I am doing just fine as I am, I am busy…too busy…surely there is nothing wrong with just carrying on as I am?” Jesus instructs us to know and keep the word of God, study Holy Scripture…..answer the calling God has placed over your life. As Fr James at St Charles said at mass yesterday “Without knowing Holy Scripture you cannot live.” We are challenged in ”Hebrews 4:12 ‘Indeed the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.’ When we spend time reading Holy Scripture, seeking God, do we allow our LORD to speak into our lives, we are challenged…..not with a set of onerous rules, but with the keys that open doors called joy, love, purpose, peace, understanding, wisdom…. knowledge of our saviour Jesus Christ and our heavenly Father.

Prayer. Holy Father, we thank you for your book of life – Holy Scripture, may we develop a deep reverence and joy in seeking out your word. Please heal and restore Debra, Trish, Kevin, Michelle, Pedro, Gill, Charlotte, Chad, Mary, Fr Stanley, Kevin V, Nicky, Lidia, Tony and baby Mia. Amen.

Note: A request for those who live in Johannesburg there is a bakery Not Bread Alone at 63 Malibongwe drive Randburg that faithfully supplies our feeding ministry for the homeless every week. Please consider supporting them as in turn you will be supporting St Vincent de Paul society of St Charles. The bakery offers superb breakfasts, lunches, coffees, breads, rolls, pies, pastries, confectionary and platters. Thank you.

Please feel free to forward these mails to others or to send me their email addresses, should you not wish to receive, then kindly advise via email.
