1 Corinthians 10 : 9 ‘We should not test the Lord..’
Sometimes we meet people who carry anger towards God or you may be experiencing these very same emotions. Perhaps you feel that God has just not answered your prayers, you may have prayed for years and now question the fact that you have not seen a change. If we reflect on our prayers, have we prayed and then thought ‘I have given prayer a chance with no change ….no more praying coming from me’ and are we possibly showing conditional love towards God – “if you do this for me then I will do this for you?” Our God is not up for worldly negotiation, he is, however, ready for a spiritual covenant relationship. What is the difference? Negotiation is trying to get a position of advantage for ourselves through us undertaking an action subject to getting an outcome from God, we would be testing God’s end of the ‘bargain’. Covenant is a spiritual commitment between us and God – from which our choices and actions should flow, for which we have undertaken through our love for God. God honours our obedience. We must persist in all our prayers, prayer is a great gift from God. We must not be tempted to apply our worldly reasoning to a time frame in which we expect God to answer our prayers, but rather have the faith and trust in his divine grace and purpose…..keep on praying. James 5:16 ‘The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective’
Prayer. Holy Lord, our God and our King, today we pray for the resolve to be persistent in prayer, that we gain a deep understanding of a righteous walk and prayer life. Father, you know our hearts, please turn your ear to all those prayer requests for those needing a strengthening in marriage and convict all partners’ hearts of covenant and that your strength and hand heals and restores. Amen.
